Elena wrung her hands as she tried to figure everything out after Reius' departure. Lillian was giving her some one on one lessons on how to be the CMO but honestly Elena felt like she had to be more attached to people than she really wanted to be. After all, when she died all ties would be severed even though Tam would still live on in someone else with all of the memories that the others that had been close to her would have. She didn't see the point in it was all and she doubted her abilities to do this.

"You are in way over your head," Elena told herself as she went through some files.

Still, she knew it was a good idea for her to start to try and make some friends of some sort and Nayla had really been the only person that she had even begun to connect with that she didn't fight with. So it only seemed to her that she should make sure to develop that. She wasn't good with feelings, however, so she decided to just call Nayla down for a physical.

Because Nayla never had the same medical care of demand that Starfleet crew members enjoyed so much the idea of a physical, or even the nature of one, was a mystery. In her mind she had the image of Nayla with a stopwatch as she would run obstacle courses to make sure that she was still up to the physical standards of fitness. Thanks to this ignorance she was dressed in her standard issue fitness gear of shorts and vest top that she and Taylor had worn through so many of their marine oriented fitness tests that often left her sweaty, dizzy and ill tempered.

Since it was Elena carrying out the physicals maybe there would be less pain and more gain. According to Taylor you couldn't have one and not the other. However the down side to wearing the fitness gear was that more of her emerald skin was available for the crew's appraisal. Nayla was used to having to show off some skin but now she had decided that it would be for people who she felt comfortable around. So whenever someone eyed her up she'd snarl at them causing them to retreat with haste.

Entering the sickbay she found Elena and sneaked behind her with a Intelligence officer's stealth and tapped her shoulder. "Here for my physical Spots. Hope you go easy on me."

She pointed to a bio bed and then went to grab her supplies, remembering that she needed to make sure that everyone was where it needed to be. She got to move everything around now that Sickbay was hers, and that made her a little happier...a quiet place all to herself.

"Your attire...what exactly were you thinking would happen?" Elena asked, cheeks a little flushed at the sight of the Orion.

"Getting made to run around a track while you took notes I guess." replied Nayla who returned the blush as she sat up onto the biobed. "I've never done a physical before so I just went by the name and got dressed accordingly. Obviously I was wrong in my assumption judging by your question and your laugh."

He had to learn everything the hard way and so I get it. It's just a standard check up with some scans and I need to test some physical things--hence the name. Nothing like obstacle courses or anything."

Now she was being subjected to something totally alien to her but she trusted Elena, she was the more friendly doctors around.

"Just making sure that you're healthy," the Trill responded as she turned the tricorder around to show Nayla what was on it. "These are your vitals, and a scan of your insides to make sure that everything is functioning and to let me see where all of your organs are, etc."

She smiled at the curious young woman in front of her, taking a deep breath and then continuing her scans. Elena remembered when she was this excited about everything--excited to get to be joined with one such as Tam. She wanted to explore and to be part of something and then the rules of the Trill came to her and she was definitely turned off, but something about Nayla made her feel a little more warm and fuzzy than she was with others.

While she had used scanners and tricorders before she had never seen one designed specifically to record medical data. "As long as all my bits and pieces are where they should be I'm happy." teased Nayla with a grin. "So, what have you been up to?"

He had to learn everything the hard way and so I get it. It's just a standard check up with some scans and I need to test some physical things--hence the name. Nothing like obstacle courses or anything."

"What exactly are you looking for?" asked the Orion who tried to peek at the tricorder's readout screen to see what Elena might see when she ran the scanner part of the device over her. She was a curious person as always felt a little on edge when information wasn't in her possession.

At the sight of the tricorder being showed to her Nayla seemed to study it hard as she read off the information from the screen with a rather interested expression on her face. While she had used scanners and tricorders before she had never seen one designed specifically to record medical data. "As long as all my bits and pieces are where they should be I'm happy." teased Nayla with a grin. "So, what have you been up to?"

"I've been incredibly busy," Elena responded as she reached up to check Nayla's pulse, absent-mindedly stroking her neck with her fingers as she did so. "The General quit so I had to step up as CMO. Well, actually, Lillian thought I could do it with the proper training and I have to say, people still don't want to come here. They're frustrated with my terrible bedside manner and I can't blame them...I'm a bit cold."

It was true and Elena wasn't about to beat around the bush about it because she wasn't entirely upset about that--at least she never had been before. While her existence as of late had been rather lonely because she thought it would be easier, things and people had made her want to be close. She just knew that she couldn't and so she was focusing on work and so far so good.

"You?" Elena asked, trying to make small talk.

Elena/Nayla - Dealing Empty

Elena turned around to see Nayla in her fitness gear and smiled a little bit--the kind of rare smile from her that turned into a small laugh.

"Hey, I'm sorry," Elena told her, resting her hand on Nayla's shoulder awkwardly, a smile still on her face. "While it's rare that I laugh, I only laugh when I'm nervous, you're very..."

She didn't finish her sentence but instead pulled out her tricorder. "I was not fully aware of human traditions either when I joined the Federation. Well, when Tam did. Tilting her head towards Elena's hand that was resting on her throat. "You seem to have done well in stepping into big shoes. Besides I think you're lovely." beamed Nayla who was ever happy and smiley. The fact that Taylor had plucked her from the stuffy Intel offices, away from the paranoid officers and any chances of running into Lars ever again. She felt the man was too sleazy for his own good. Then there was Elena, beautiful and friendly Elena who had sat with her in the mess hall and been something of a friend to her. Usually Taylor was the only source of friendship but Starfleet had opened so many doors for her.

"Taylor has got me in on his marine squad as the tech and intel expert. I guess he trusts me enough to watch his back after all those months. I take it you still find him...difficult."

The others think I don't know, but I know they call me distant and cold and emotionless--wish I was emotionless sometimes, but uh...Taylor will grow on me, I'm sure."

She shrugged as she began to check Nayla's reflexes and then looked up into her eyes and smiled and shrugged because the moment called for it. The Trill wasn't one for apologizing for herself, but she felt like the Orion deserved somewhat of one. She didn't have to listen to Elena but she was and it seemed to her that she was more or less actually interested in what she had to say.

"He's hard to get along with but he cares about other people. Not many men have a good heart." mused the Orion who let Elena run her tests with no interruption from her. "And you're not as cold as people think or as you like to think. In fact I like to think of you as rather warm. I bet you're just a spicy woman just waiting to find the right man or cocktail combination." added Nayla with a wink.

Nayla could be the life and soul of any party because she had the confidence in herself. She knew her looks attracted attention and that her passion was somewhat untameable. Nayla was also reliable and loyal to those she cared about.

"I think you see a side of me that no one else really does," Elena admitted with a shrug as she said it. "I isolate myself on purpose and 90% of the time I like it. For some reason though, I really do enjoy your company. I mean I was the one that singled you out in the Mess Hall and I never do that. Ever. Something about you just drew me in and while you needed a check up, that's why you're here."

The doctor blushed when the words spilled out, but she had no problems talking to people when she had to and Tam had been desperate with some form of contact. Now Nayla knew why she was really here even though she was getting a physical and it was going really well. Nayla was healthy and it was nice that things were going so well right now for Elena as the new CMO.

"Forgive me, Tam really needs to socialize and sometimes that need inside makes me open up about things I should keep to myself." Elena told the Orion as she started to input data into the console near them quickly to avoid the fall out so to speak of her words.

Elena/Nayla - Dealing Empty

Elena turned around to see Nayla in her fitness gear and smiled a little bit--the kind of rare smile from her that turned into a small laugh.

Elena laughed a little. "The good Colonel still has yet to change my mind on that front, but many would say the exact same about me and I know it. "It was probably the green skin. It's a beacon of attention but at least with you it was positive attention." said the Orion was she gently swayed her legs on the bio bed. She watched Elena blush with something of a smile on her face. "I think there is more than you're telling me. I'm sure you'd have more physicals to go through than just little old me."

"I wanted you here and you're here...and you're healthy," she put in to make it sound professional.

Elena turned around to see Nayla in her fitness gear and smiled a little bit--the kind of rare smile from her that turned into a small laugh.

Elena laughed a little. "The good Colonel still has yet to change my mind on that front, but many would say the exact same about me and I know it.

"It was probably the green skin. It's a beacon of attention but at least with you it was positive attention." said the Orion as she gently swayed her legs on the bio bed. She watched Elena blush with something of a smile on her face. "I think there is more than you're telling me. I'm sure you'd have more physicals to go through than just little old me."

"What more could there be?" Elena asked her as she looked up from the console and let her eyes rest on the Orion's face.

Obviously there was, but the Trill had already said so much and she figured that by now Nayla could piece it all together on her own. This wasn't her area of expertise even though she knew what to do--Tam had been through this plenty a time and Elena understood the types of things to say and/or do. She was just certain that such things should be kept to herself and she'd eluded to quite enough already.

"I wanted you here and you're here...and you're healthy," she put in to make it sound professional.

"I have the feeling you wanted me on this bed naked for your scans." teased Nayla with a laugh. She was able to laugh at such things with Elena. "Maybe your scanners aren't that accurate if you're asking what more there is."

The Trill's face blushed as she pictured the image and then she quickly recovered. "I meant I've told you all of it...you look very good, Nayla. Very healthy."

She gave her a smile and then went to put her tools away, not wanting to let this moment really pass her by, but also wanting to pick her words carefully. If Nayla got some impression that Elena wasn't ready for her to have yet, she didn't know what she'd do. All she knew was that she had brought Nayla here for a reason and while she easily got to update her Starfleet file with the physical, that wasn't what Elena wanted most.

"You want to do dinner sometime?"

For a moment Nayla couldn't believe her ears when Elena had asked the question. So much so that she actually blinked before tilting her head with a smile. "Dinner huh?" she said after a moment's pause. Nayla associated dinner with men who liked to dress up women just for the purposes on showing off their prize. It went without saying that a dinner, regardless of who it was with, was just not on the table for the Orion.

"I'm not a dinner type of person. But anything else and I'm yours."

"I'm always up to suggestions." Elena said nodding.

It certainly wasn't a rejection, but at the same time it hadn't really been a 'yes' either and Elena didn't want to push her luck here. So she just leaned on the console and looked Nayla in the eye as she thought about her next words. She wanted to make sure that she asserted herself and that she made Nayla feel comfortable at the same time and didn't push too hard.

"I just want to spend more time with you," the Trill admitted.

Elena/Nayla - Dealing Empty

Elena turned around to see Nayla in her fitness gear and smiled a little bit--the kind of rare smile from her that turned into a small laugh.

Elena laughed a little. "The good Colonel still has yet to change my mind on that front, but many would say the exact same about me and I know it.

"How about a nice little....naked swim in the holodeck since you seem so eager to spend time with me. Not to mention scan be with medical tricorders." teased the Orion with a toxic smile. She was sweet like honey that way but she could also be something of a temptress. However Nayla was determined to give Elena something of a good time since she seemed like a bag of nerves.

The Trill was surprised to say the least--she hadn't expected the Orion to be as open or forward about such a plan, even if she was an Orion. Elena hadn't even been sure that Nayla thought of her in any way other than a friend and maybe she didn't. Perhaps this was simply some way to get to know her better and Elena had to make sure not to screw this up.

"Name a time and I'll be there," Elena said with a smile. "I'm curious though...what would make you want to do such a thing with me?"

"I've been incredibly busy," Elena responded as she reached up to check Nayla's pulse, absentmindedly stroking her neck with her fingers as she did so.

Elena laughed a little. "The good Colonel still has yet to change my mind on that front, but many would say the exact same about me and I know it.

"How about a nice little....naked swim in the holodeck since you seem so eager to spend time with me. Not to mention scan me with medical tricorders." teased the Orion with a toxic smile.

"I wanna see how far those spots go down." answered Nayla with a sweetness that was bordering lust. She gave a shrug and hopped off the biobed, trailing her fingers along Eleana's face. "2200...my place. Unless you plan on giving me another test here doctor?"

Elena/Nayla - Dealing Empty

Elena turned around to see Nayla in her fitness gear and smiled a little bit--the kind of rare smile from her that turned into a small laugh.

"Getting made to run around a track while you took notes I guess." replied Nayla who returned the blush as she sat up onto the bio bed. "I've never done a physical before so I just went by the name and got dressed accordingly. Obviously I was wrong in my assumption judging by your question and your laugh."

It was an unexpected surprise, but Elena thought that she might as well make sure that she didn't miss an opportunity. After all, she'd wanted to spend more time with the Orion and it looked like she was getting her wish on the subject. She also wondered what Nayla was expecting as she got bold and stroked her hair, playing with the red strands.

"I won't be late..."
