Episode 1: By the Light of Two Moons Episode1BtLoTMBanner-resized

Description:

Tercius Prime is a lush planet with beautiful landscapes, luscious greens and great lakes. It is a small planet compared to most, but it has two moons and one sun. While the native aliens, the Sarians (who are humanoids with gill looking ridges on their necks helping them to live underwater as well as above land) occupy the majority of the space, they are part of the Federation and there is a small Federation output on the planet. They are friendly and welcome all races, always happy to swap knowledge about their Gods and their weapons.

The Sarians have five main deities and create a lot of Federation weapons now using energy sources they mine underwater on their planet, and speak in many dialects. They are exceptionally smart and learn at fast speeds, but they also do not understand "boundaries". Sarians come in the same shapes, sizes and colors as humans, but have broader shoulders and taller foreheads--they all have green eyes.

The USS Fenris has landed on Tercius Prime and is collecting the rest of its crew. It's time for the crew to get to know each other and have a bit of shore leave, even though there is something weird happening on the planet. There are Mercs of course and Marissa is close to being found out by a member or two of the crew, as well as a Ferengi team taking an interest in the newly appointed Captain.

Objectives:

- Get the new crew settled
- Senior Officers get to know each other and how each other thinks
- Merc shadiness (Ethan and Mel? I'm giving you full reign here, talk it out together)
- Ferengi confrontations (trade, Lilly helping them to make money, mingling with the crew)
- Enjoy shore leave
- Get the ship in tip-top condition to set out again

Lilly woke up early that morning, stretching with a smile on her face, turning to look at Taylor and smiling even more. It was almost like physically they were back into the swing of things judging from their two go's the night before not counting the sex on his ship. Climbing on top of him, she kissed him gently, stroking his hair and running her nose along his.

"Wake up so I can steal some good kisses before I have to get dressed," she whispered.

A small groan left Taylor's lips as he felt something, someone, on top of him. It took him a while to be fully roused to his senses but when he had done so, his icy blue eyes liked what they saw. His heart almost leapt out of his chest at the sight of the captain, his lover, above him. Or it was her lack of clothing, either way.

“I thought the idea of me not being a Starfleet officer was to sleep in...” he said tiredly.

"You can go back to sleep in a minute," Lillian responded with a gentle nip at his lip. "I have a lot to do today and unlike our other reunions you're still in bed so I'm taking advantage of it."

She kissed him tenderly, cupping his face and tucking her long hair behind her ears. It was actually getting a bit frustrating--she needed a style that was easier to manage, that was for certain.

"By the way, you're required to go have some shore leave today. Mingle with Marlo, meet the crew...behave..." she stressed the last part because tensions were high enough without anyone getting their buttons pushed either way.

Sighing happily he sat up so he could embrace Lillian closer. She was beautiful first thing in the morning with messed up hair and no make up. It's when her real beauty truly shone. “I'll do the best I can...no taking the piss out of the doctors.”

"Good, no being mean to my doctors," Lillian said with a soft chuckle. "Though Marlo said something that made me think I'll be doing just as much doctoring as they will be." She kissed him tenderly, letting her nose run along his as she looked him in the eye.

Lillian was the happiest she had been in a while and not just because she had his arms around her and they were flesh to flesh like it used to be. He was Taylor, and he was there...right where she wanted him.

"If I cut my hair, would you flip out?" She asked slowly, tugging at his lip with her teeth.

Taylor smiled coyly as she tugged at his lip, instead turning it into a full kiss before offering any answer. The taste of her mouth was undeniably sweet and he happily let out a soft sigh to show how satisfied he was. When he broke the kiss he just shook his head and offered another one of his wide smiles. “Baby...you're beautiful, do as you please.”

"I have you all trained," Lillian teased, kissing him and then getting up, heading for the bathroom before turning around to look at him again. "I mean it about shore leave, by the way. Please relax and mingle. Oh! I love you...just in case you didn't know."

With a smile and a wink, Lillian happily bounded into the shower, getting herself all cleaned up and dressed for the day as Taylor drifted back off to sleep. Then she took her hypospray with her prenatal vitamins in it and gave herself the daily dosage, heading into the main living area and replicating herself some coffee. She then sat down at the island counter in the replicated kitchen and looked over her PADD for the day as she pulled her hair back into an effective ponytail, deciding then and there to cut her hair once she got to the surface of Tercius Prime.

It actually made Lillian inconceivably happy that not only did her life feel back on track, but that she was finally going to have an entire crew. She'd be more able to delegate things to more people and perhaps that would alleviate her stress--having more people to count on to get things done. Lillian certainly needed to have less stress in her life, that was for certain.

"Your mother is going to put herself in an early grave, Little One," Lillian said with a small laugh as she ran her fingers along her stomach through her uniform.

It felt so surreal to be pregnant. She was going to start getting visibly larger and she was going to feel the baby moving inside of her more and pretty soon Taylor would be able to feel it too, and Sareth. Thinking of Sareth, Lillian wondered how in the world she was going to tell him that Taylor was in fact back in their lives. He had gone through so much when they had heard that Taylor was gone and though his mother had kept hope alive in her heart, he had been sad. He had just gotten a father and then he was torn away from him.

Then what about her parents? Lillian still wanted to marry Taylor someday, and actually she wanted to put the ring back on her finger already but that would take time. They weren't the same as they had been and they weren't still engaged...or at least the two hadn't talked about that. As much as they wanted things to go back to normal they just couldn't go back to exactly how things were and Lillian's parents were going to have a field day. What was she supposed to tell the three of them when her parents brought Sareth back to her?

Only time could tell.

Taking a deep breath after finishing her cup of coffee, Lillian went back into her bedroom and kissed Taylor's forehead as he slept, smiling at him and then tiptoeing back out of the room. Then she headed to the bridge and smiled as she sat in the Captain's chair, looking at Derek, as he was always the first one she saw when she came on duty. It was almost like he was always there.

"How long until we get to Tercius Prime?" She asked him.

Derek looked at her with a smile on his face. "30 minutes, Captain. Shall I inform the crew?"

"We can send out a message over the systems when we're a little closer, I think. Let people focus on the ship for right now and then they can focus on their shore leave." Lillian said with a small shrug. "We have to get this ship into tip-top shape while we're here, so I don't want people too distracted. At the same time, I want everyone to enjoy themselves on the planet. We have a lot to do today."

"Yes we do, Captain," Derek responded with a nod, looking back at his console in front of him. "I just hope that everyone remembers the main objective."

Lillian laughed a little bit at that. "The main objective is to follow my orders, and my main objective is to follow the orders that Starfleet gives me...unless you're thinking of something else..."

Derek simply shook his head, but Lillian was getting a little bit suspicious of the man and she was starting to wonder if maybe her oath not to read peoples' mind needed to be broken or not. There was just something about him that made her wonder and she didn't know what it was exactly about him that made her worry. At least she had today to worry about other things--it was time to get everything completely in order.

Professionally and personally...

Thanks to the mud filled trenches of the Dominion War Taylor had always been a light sleeper. You never knew when you had to be called up to the firing line. When he had been nothing more than a simple gun for hire his sleep pattern became more and more heavier. Thanks to being on a Federation vessel his old habits were starting to kick in.

It had only been a short period of time since Lillian had left and Taylor falling back to sleep that he actually got up. Slipping from the sheets naked he crossed into the bathroom of Lillian's quarters, turned on the light and looked at himself in the mirror. A small sound of disgust echoed from his mouth as Taylor eyed up his beard. It wasn't long but it was thick and on the verge of being busy. Why Lillian would kiss him was beyond him.

Replicating some shaving foam he took out his combat knife from his gun belt that was underneath some discarded clothes from last night's festivities. Taylor had always kept a keen edge on the blade so when he ran some hot water into the basin and applied the foam it didn't take much effort for the blade to scrape off his beard.

Now that he was clean shaven Taylor stepped into the shower and set it for a sonic clean than a water one. Even though Taylor loved the water he just didn't feel like indulging himself. All shaven and clean Taylor stepped from the shower which didn't take long to vibrate the dirty feeling from his skin. He replicated new ones and “de-replicated” his old clothes to recycle their mass for other use.

He wasn't dressed in anything special; just a black t-shirt and cargo trousers with combat boots. His pistol belt with his plasma pistol, knife, power cells and scanner was wrapped around his waist so that his somewhat intimidating outfit was complete. Taylor didn't want to look like he was going to punch someone, he just liked the style.

Taylor contemplated just staying in Lillian's quarters for breakfast but he decided it would be best if he actually got a move on rather than lounge about. Stepping from the door Taylor made his way to the mess, ignoring the awkward looks he got as he walked past crew members. It seemed they still weren't used to the idea of him being on board.

Breakfast got closer as he entered the mess and replicated himself some black coffee and buttered toast. Taylor eat like he slept; quick and light. He kept himself to himself as he gently sipped and chewed.

Right now he wasn't looking for company.

||Main Engineering, Gabe's office

Awaking with a snort and a sore neck, he checked the chrono on his deck to see he'd slept for a little under 5 hours. He rubbed his eyes and slowly stood up, easing his aches. He'd slept in his chair, legs up on his desk after working 3 shifts in a row and now he was starting to feel it.

"Geez even my beard aches." He said as his back cracked and he walked over the the replicator on the far wall, "Tea Sharpe blend 1."

As his drink appeared in front of him, he checked the repair logs still to be done. His engineers had done a great job thus far in getting the ship back in one piece and most of the work was done, of course there were still a few things here and there that remained to be done but it shouldn't take too much longer, unless of course something else broke 10 minutes after being fixed.

After taking a quick shower and changing his uniform he stepped out into engineering and looked around. He saw his team working on the last few things in Engineering that needed finishing while a few others were wandering the ship doing their damnest to get the ship into shape.

"Good morning Commander." Ensign Firun said as he handed gabe a PADD, "Teams report the EPS grid is up to full working order, we shouldn't have anymore surprise explosions." He added, a smile on his face.

"Very good Ensign, I'll go tell the captain." Gabe repiled, cracking his neck, "I could do with the walk."

Minutes later Gabe stepped out of the turbolift and onto the bridge. Seeing that Lilly wasn't on the bridge he asked the engineering running the bridge station, who told him that the captain hadn't shown up yet. He relieved the engineer and took the station himself, taking the chance to look over the repair reports he'd missed while asleep. At least this way he could catch Lilly and catch up on his work.

Marlo had spent the morning wandering around the ship, making sure that everything was under control and running at par, before they touched down on Tercius Prime, and now that they had, she finally had a chance to relax. There was still so many repairs to make, but nowhere near as many as there had been when they'd received the ship.

She sat down in her chair, and shifted so that her legs could hang over one arm, and her head hang over the other. It may not have looked that professional, but they were letting the crew go down for some R & R so she didn't mind too much. She would've sat in Lillian's chair, but she always seemed to know when Marlo did just that. So she contented herself with her bridge seat.

Marlo hadn't been in the chair for more then ten minutes, when she got up, picked up a hyperspanner, and slid under a bulkhead to help with repairs, and save the engineers some trouble. Marlo did wonder where exactly K'nok had found this ship that it was so badly damaged. Marlo smiled; it seemed Gabe and his engineers had repaired the power grid, so she didn't have to worry about any systems randomly losing power anymore.

She hadn’t actually talked to Gabe except to ask him how much dilithium he was going to need to get the ship safely to Tercius Prime. She made a mental note to rectify that later, probably after she met with the rest of the officers. Hell...why wait?

Marlo sighed and crawled out from under the bulkhead—this was supposed to be shore leave, and she shouldn’t spend it under a derelict panel. Marlo set the hyperspanner down carefully, and after leaving the bridge to Derek, made her way to Engineering.

Marissa was about fed up with her team of Mercs that morning, all of them a bit too excited to be landing soon. Of course she knew that they wanted to stretch their legs, but she didn't want the Starfleet personel to get suspicious. Eventually she would tell Lillian and Marlo, but for now she was comfortable with just Taylor knowing about her 'extracurricular activities'.

Hmm...Taylor Lucas.

It suddenly dawned on her that maybe she didn't know for certain if she could trust him.

He had once been a marine.

Shaking her head and running her fingers through her black hair, Marissa entered the Mess Hall and went straight for the replicator. She needed nutrition. It wasn't a want or a random thought, it was most definitely a need. If she didn't get something in her soon, she was going to throw a fit.

"Banana pancakes and a glass of orange juice," she told the replicator.

She smiled when the food and drink appeared, picking them up and then turning to stake out a table. That's when she saw Taylor: speak of the devil.

Laughing a little bit she went over and sat down with him at the table without even asking if a seat was taken or not. Maybe he wanted to spend some time on his own, but Marissa wanted to have someone to eat with and she wanted to get to know Taylor better. After all, she'd told him a secret she didn't tell most. In fact, Marissa really didn't want to get kicked off of the ship before something fun and life changing happened. She still had yet to hit on Gabe.

"Morning, Lucas--you're eating light, I see. Here I thought someone would be keeping you up all night and you'd need your protein." She winked at him and then dug into her pancakes, keeping her eyes on his face to gauge his reactions.

Somewhere inside Taylor sighed at the minor annoyance that had decided to sit down opposite him. Instead of making a fuss about it Taylor kept on sipping his coffee as he stared at his empty plate. His cup was nearly empty for he was a fast drinker, even where hot beverages were concerned. Then he shifted his eyes, one real and one cybernetic, and looked at Marissa.

The Chief of Security was beautiful, just undeniably gorgeous but that didn't register with Taylor. He just kept his eyes on hers to see what kind of person she was. Beauty on a woman like that screamed alarm bells in his mind. Taylor felt sorry for the men she had her eyes on, if any.

“Morning lieutenant. I'm not quite sure what you mean.”

Of course he was lying. Lillian and Taylor hadn't been exactly subtle and now as far as Taylor was aware people were spreading a rumour that the captain had found herself a pirate love conquest. In his opinion the crew could mind their own business and stop reading so many trashy books. Of course he would be better getting water from a stone.

“I've been thinking about your proposition and have decided to decline. I'm going to ask Captain Crae if she will speak to Starfleet Command to reinstate my commission as I was classed as dead. As for the story of why I never made contact well...leave that to me. If I'm going to leave anyone I need to trust them. Marines will do fine, you don't have a problem with marines do you?”

"I'm sure you have no idea what I mean at all."

Marissa chuckled a little to herself and ate her food, sipping her orange juice and letting his words register with her. She didn't mind him not joing her and her Mercs, she just hoped that his becoming a marine again wouldn't get in the way of her work: Starfleet and otherwise. She had plans set in motion and she had her way of doing things and if Taylor got in her way, she'd have to remove him. Marissa didn't want to do any such thing to the handsome, worn man in front of her, but she would do what she had to do to protect her own.

Sighing, Marissa set her utensils down and looked at Taylor to get her point across. "If you don't get in my way, I won't get in yours. The way I see it, you and your marines have something in common with me and my team and I don't see why we can't help each other out...as long as you and I can work together comfortably."

She had to add in the last bit.

As far as she was concerned she was still Starfleet, and he was still a marine.

"You marines live to help those who can't help themselves right? That's all I do...even if it's outside of Starfleet jurisdiction. I have the captain's say so to do things as I see fit to keep this ship safe, so as long as you can handle that, I can handle anything you throw at me. Just don't test me and you won't have to see my bad side."

Taylor listened to the Chief of Security's reply as he lit up a cigarette. Right now he didn't care if she had reservations against smoking. He just blew the deadly mix away from her face as a matter of courtesy. However his courtesy was at thin levels.

“I've fought mercenaries before. For the Federation, against the Federation...a mercenary is a mercenary. On Thesa Prime I saw mercenaries butcher, rape and pillage Federation citizens all for latinum coin. Now I'm not saying your team is like this...but believe me....a foot wrong and not even you will be able to protect them.”

With his words over Taylor threw his half smoked death stick into Marissa's orange juice before standing up. He made it a point to tap his plasma pistol before giving a rather curt nod. Shame he wasn't to be as diplomatic as Lillian had hoped. Still Thesa Prime had left him scarred and wounded in mind. Then again he wasn't about to tell Marissa that.

“Good day, lieutenant.” said Taylor darkly as he left the mess.

"What did I tell you about how we call ourselves 'Mercs' but we're really not?" Marissa asked him as she ate.

She sighed loudly because she really didn't want to explain it again, but it was obvious that she would have to. Her team was more of a team of vigilantes, there to help people where the Prime Directive said they could not. Maybe sometimes that hurt more than it helped, but Marissa wanted to help the Federation. If Taylor couldn't understand that, he simply wasn't the man Marissa thought him to be. Then again, she wasn't the woman that he thought her to be either.

He was convinced that she was going to do something horrendous and she would have to show her worth. Just the fact that Lillian trusted him was enough for her. She trusted Lillian with her life and the lives of every on board, and if Lillian trusted Taylor than Taylor was a good man and that was all that Marissa needed.

What she didn't need was a cigarette in her orange juice.

That was uncalled for.

"Yeah, you're a real keeper, Lucas!" she called after him, throwing the glass in his direction.

Maybe she'd get in trouble for it, but it wasn't like she could drink it now anyway.

She would be talking to Lillian about this.

||USS Fenris
||Captain's Ready Room
||1010

Lillian sat at her desk and took a deep breath, looking over the pictures in her Ready Room and smiling a little bit. Sareth, Sareth and her, Megan, Megan and Lars, her parents, her, Megan and Leonard, Leonard and Kara with Garrett, Liam and Mia, Marlo, Marlo and her family (her father, Vronnen, mother Lilja, and then her sister and her brother Leila and Fitz)--Lillian was a mother hen. She enjoyed having pictures of her family close to her and she was reminded suddenly that it wouldn't be that long until she rendezvoused with her parents and she got her son back. She missed Sareth more than anything.

Smiling, Lillian barely caught that there was a chime at her door. She was used to people needing her by now as she had been acting CO on Starbase 7 and the XO, but now she was the captain. It was more work, but it was nice and the transition hadn't been that hard. The transition that had been hard for her had been thinking Taylor was dead...that and not really being a doctor anymore. How could she have let that happen? She was a brilliant doctor.

"Come in," she said calmly.

Derek walked in with a smile on his face. "We're in orbit, Cap--you can make your announcement now."

"Yeah...uh-huh thanks, Ensign." Lillian responded, shooing him out with her hand.

He winked and left, Lillian rolling her eyes and making sure not to laugh because she didn't want anyone to get any ideas about anything. She was pregnant. She was Taylor's. She was pregnant and she was Taylor's. A long time ago, Taylor Lucas had shown up and she'd fallen in love and he'd been her very first lover and from that point on she was his. She had loved her husband, Salyn, very much and would not trade Sareth for anything, but Taylor Lucas had ruined her for every other man. He was her one...her imzadi.

They were forever.

Smiling as always as she thought about Taylor, Lillian took a moment to compose herself and then opened all of the channels on the ship to make her announcement. She was a very authoritative person with a kind voice and she loved addressing the crew...even though right now she had a little less than half of one. That was what they were supposed to be here on Tercius Prime for, however--to get the rest of the crew and finish fixing up the ship.

"Attention crew of the USS Fenris, this is your Captain, Captain Crae speaking. We are in orbit of Tercius Prime and I want you all to know that this is required shore leave. We are here to mingle, meet the rest of the crew and finish restoring the ship. So, my darling engineers, you'll have to take shifts, same with my security units. Commander Bakel, we will switch soon enough. Everyone else, please get down to the planet--but don't forget to come back. Thank you all. Remember that I appreciate each and every one of you." Lillian said smiling. "Captain Crae, over and out."

She cut the comm systems and then smiled a bit, laughing to herself--she was definitely enjoying this job even though she didn't always think command was her thing. Still, she ran her fingers along her stomach even though it wasn't protruding even a tiny bit yet, and she hoped and prayed it was a girl. Lillian could use some shore leave and so could everyone else. Besides...Lillian wanted to cut her hair...

Gabe watched the engineering board in front of him as Lillian's announcement came over the Comm System. Shore leave wasn't something he was used to, indeed this would be only the second time since he'd joined Starfleet he'd taken time off. He shook his head and walked over to the captain's ready room, PADD in hand and pressed the doorchime.

Lillian had expected visitors, but not this soon after her announcement. "Come in!"

She was pleasantly cheerful that morning, but she equated that to Taylor and just kept the smile on her face. Lillian was more than ready to start the day and see how her engineers were doing, which meant talking to Gabe. Marlo was more of a bridge gal these days given her promotion to XO, and though she knew Marlo missed Engineering just as she missed Sickbay, they were both content.

Gabe stepped inside and handed Lilly a PADD.

"Repairs are about as far along as we can get 'em, Heck I've personally been running double and triple shifts since I got here, but with an understaffed department we're running a little slow." He said stroking his beard, "I can always keep going if needs be. I'm sure that given a few more days, a week at the most we can have the ship running like the day it left space dock."

Gabe figured Lilly knew that he was attempting to get out of the shore leave, afterall he still had work to do and hated the idea of leaving his people to continue while he sat on a beach somewhere taking in the rays. He also knew the attempt was doomed to fail, but he had to try.

Lillian looked over the PADD he'd given her and took a deep breath before she set it down on her desk and looked up at Gabe. She knew that people were going to want to be on the planet and some weren't, but she thought Gabe might actually want to relax. She hadn't wanted to have to force everyone down on the planet, but 'required' was the only word she could use to make her point.

"You're my Chief Engineer, Gabe, and I trust you more than pretty much anyone to take of this ship, but that being said I want you to take a break and get some fresh air while we're here." Lillian said with a smile. "The kind that comes from the planet, not a Hollodeck."

"Fine, fine. I can take a hint." He replied, "Still not really used to 'relaxing' lark. My people can get the job done, I just wasn't happy about leaving them alone. Not after we've all busted our asses, felt like I should be leading from the front as it were. Besides fresh airs overrated and I can relax just fine with my feet up and a nice cold beer in my hands." He added with a grin, "Well then, which shift ya want me to take on the planet?"

Lillian smiled at him. "I'm not saying go down for the whole time--there's plenty of time for you to be up here with your crew to keep everything functioning properly. I just want everyone to at least spend an hour down there. When we get back onto course and leave here you'll have more than enough time to spend with your engineers, I promise."

She laughed a little and then looked the PADD over once more before addressing him again. "You're the Chief Engineer, Gabe--you can decide whether you want this first one now or if you want to wait until later to go. I'm letting my Senior Officers have more freedom to decide, but I do want you all down there at one point or another--your men included."

"Don't worry, they'll be down there as will I. Figure this is as good a time as any to get some 'fresh air'." He joked, then added, "I take it you'll be following your own orders?"

Lillian laughed and nodded. "Yeah, I'll be taking my own orders. I'm in need of rest according to our lovely medical staff, so I'll be making sure I get some much needed RnR. Do you need anything else, Gabe?"

"Good, hate ta be down there alone. No I think that's it, now ya have my report i need to go find something to change into." he added with a smile, He nodded to Lilly and left the room, deciding what to take with him.

Remy entered the turbo lift, requesting the computer to take her to Lillian's deck so that she may talk to her. She felt bad about her outburst at Lillian about the heart. She knew if she wasn't careful she'd have to actually go talk to the counselor about it and possibly be declared unfit for duty. That wasn't an option for her, her job was her life, it was the only thing keeping her going at the moment.

She told herself she would go in, apologize about the outburst, tell her she was having a bad day and the stress got to her. Then she'll drop in that she had lunch with Aaron Garren, hopefully that will satisfy Lillian. Remy thought the engineer was an interesting person, though she would keep her distance as usual, why mess up a good thing? She liked her solitude, not to mention he made her a little nervous...

She approached Lillian's door and knocked, waiting to be given admittance.

Lillian looked up at the knock on her Ready Room door and smiled a little--Remy. Remy was the only one that knocked and so of course she hurried up and went over to the door, pushing in the required code on the door panel and watching the doors swoosh open, a smile on her face. She had already forgiven and forgot Remy's outburst, knowing the young woman was still trying to settle back in.

At the same time, she couldn't just let it slide could she? She was the CO so it was her right to do as she pleased, but at the same time she had to make Remy think she definitely should apologize--after all she had yelled at the captain...but Lillian wasn't mad. Lillian was concerned and it wasn't just her pregnancy hormones telling her to be everyone's mother either. It was because Lillian honestly cared about Remy and wanted to be her friend.

"Remy...please come in and have a seat." Lillian told her, motioning to the seat in front of her desk.

Remy gave Lilly a small tight smile and went and sat down. She sat silently for a moment, twiddling with her thumbs as she tried to find the right words to say. She didn't want to come off as crazy, but she honestly felt bad for her outburst, "I just wanted to apologize for my behavior earlier, it was unprofessional and uncalled for." She said, trying to keep a neutral tone but convey that she honestly felt poorly for her actions.

"I'm still adjusting to the new...heart...it's taking a while and I'm not used to it. I just wasn't prepared for it I guess." Remy said, staring at her thumbs for a moment, feeling rather awkward, "I think I made a friend." She said, hoping to change the subject.

Lillian smiled as Remy took a seat and sat across from her at her desk, watching her and smiling a bit more when Remy apologized. She knew that Remy was having a tough time and it was honestly alright with her--Remy had just needed some space. Her interested was peaked though when Remy mentioned making a friend.

"It's alright, Remy, honestly--I know you're still having a hard time." Lillian said with a nod. "I don't understand first hand, but I get that you're trying. So...this new friend...who is it?"

She knew better than presume one way or another whether this new friend was female or male.

Remy breathed a sigh of relief that Lillian accepted her apology and didn't push the issue. She had to remind herself to keep a firm control on her emotions and feelings, she had to act as though she was fine, if she lost her job she wouldn't know what to do, the thought was terrifying. She blushed at the mention of her 'friend'. She might be jumping the gun so to say, they'd only had one lunch. To be honest she wasn't sure she'd ever talk or see him again, which she was fine with, she liked her solitude, it made her content. If she had people around all the time she would have to hide her problems constantly, it sounded tiring. He intimidated her and made her nervous, for the most part she felt like a meerkat left out in the open without a hole to crawl into and hide. She was already coming up with plans in her head on hiding out in her office and keep some food stored near by so she wouldn't have to venture out often.

"His name is Aaron Garren, he's an engineer." She told Lillian, trying to think of things to tell her about him, "He approached me in the mess hall and asked to eat with me, and I agreed and we engaged in some small talk like you taught me to." She said, feeling a little proud of herself. Like a child presenting an elementary accomplishment to her mother.

Lillian's eyes lit up as she heard that not only did Remy have a new friend, but it was Marissa's attractive half-brother. The young man was acclimating to life on Fenris quite nicely and Lillian was so happy that he and Remy were trying in the friends department that a grin broke out across her face. Not to mention the absolute flattery she felt when Remy told her that she had taught her to engage in small talk. More than anything, Lillian really wanted Remy to have people to talk to as she was such a wonderful woman and she deserved to have a lot of people in her corner fighting for her.

"That's exciting--you let someone eat with you," Lillian told her beaming. "Will you two be hanging out on Tercius Prime for the shore leave? It'll be a great opportunity to develop your new friendship some more."

Remy had forgotten completely about the shore leave. She went still, feeling herself go pale. She new it was a requirement for the entire crew to leave the ship, but she had put it out of mind while she'd been settling in. The last thing she wanted was to leave the ship and get sucked into a crowded area for hours. "I....I had forgotten all about that" She stuttered, feeling almost sick to her stomach, "I don't suppose there is a chance I could stay in the labs? I have work to be done and I'm feeling rather ill." She knew it was a lame excuse and knowing Lilly it wouldn't work, but she had to try.

Lillian shook her head a little bit. "1)Work doesn't help you not feel ill, and 2)if you feel I'll, Remy, fresh air will do you some good."

She had a feeling that Remy was just trying to get out of shore leave and while she got it because she knew Remy liked being solitary, but she wanted her to mingle. It was important for her to know the crew and she wanted the crew to know Remy. That was all there was to it.

"...I see." Remy felt a sinking feeling in her stomach, she would have to leave the ship. It felt like being lead to an execution of some sort. Short of stowing away somewhere on the ship, she would have to go out. She didn't know the layout of Tercius Prime, she made a mental note to find out what she could so she could find a place to hide out until she was allowed back on the ship.

Lillian wondered if Remy was wondering whether or not she could actually get out of talking to people. Yes, some people preferred that, but Lillian thought that Remy was simply scared and she wished there was something she could do to help her out here. The girl was obviously terrified and Lillian didn't want her to feel forced...she wanted her to have fun.

"Tell you what...I won't make you spend a lot of time down there, but I want you to get some fresh air." Lillian decided with a gentle shrug.

Maybe just maybe, she could get Aaron to take Remy down...

Remy nodded, it seemed like it was better than nothing, "I guess you're...right..." She said, squirming a bit in her seat. She needed to figure out a place to go during the leave so that she'd be alone and not have to deal with anyone. Perhaps a shop or eating area, she would have to do some research beforehand. "I shall look into finding places to...go...on the leave. Thank you Doctor Crae." She said, deciding to take her leave.

"You really should call me, Lilly, Remy--everyone else does, and I consider you my friend." Lillian said with a gentle smile. "I know it seems like I just mother hen all the time, but I really do care and I really am here. Try to have fun on the planet, okay?"

Lillian nodded a little and kept smiling at her, honestly hoping that Remy would find that she liked opening up a bit.

Episode 1: By the Light of Two Moons LillianHaircutGraphic

Once docked with the space dock on Tercius Prime, Lillian was the first off, a whole slew of officers leaving after her and making her smile a bit. Everyone was going to have a lot of fun she hoped, and the next time they were out in space, they would have an actual objective: their actual first mission. Smiling to herself, Lillian began to ask around for a place that specialized in hair cuts--a barber shop. She found a couple but kept browsing them until she saw a stylist that had a haircut that she really liked. Walking in, she waved a little as the stylists smiled at her and waved back, some human, some Sarians, and Lillian felt confident.

"Excuse me," she said politely to the woman with the cute haircut. "Who styled your hair?"

The brown-eyed woman laughed and pointed to a woman at the desk. "That would be Breilla."

"Thank you." Lillian told her pleasantly with a smile.

Going over to the desk, Lillian noticed that the woman had gills on her neck, though at that moment they weren't in use as they were above land. The Sarians were able to breathe underwater and even had cities under the water, mostly the royalty--it was harder for hostiles to attack them under water where they were stronger. As all Sarians, Breilla had beautiful green eyes, and Lillian offered her a wave and a smile, friendly as all Betazoids were.

"Excuse me, I'm looking to have my hair cut, and perhaps styled like that," Lillian began, pointing to the stylist she'd talked and then turned back to her. "She says you're the woman to talk to."

Briella smiled and nodded. "Yes...sit over here."

Lillian smiled and took a seat, letting the woman put a piece of cloth around her to keep the fallen hair off of her clothes, and she let the woman work her fingers into her hair, smiling a bit at the scalp massaged. The woman wet it, shampooed it and conditioned it, then she smiled at Lillian's natural curls and began to snip away. Lillian watched in the mirror as the woman cut her long, shoulderblade length hair, glad that it was still resting on her shoulders. Her hair grew fast, so eventually it would grow back, but for now she was happy to see the cut.

"Can you...trim the bangs too?" Lillian asked, as they were long enough now that they were no longer bangs.

Smiling, Breilla nodded and did as Lillian asked, brushing the cut hair off and then letting Lillian touch it and smile and nod. Lillian was pleased with the new do, and even more pleased that she was going to be meeting the rest of her crew like this...she also hoped that Taylor would like it. He had told her she was beautiful and would be whatever she decided to do, but it was a lot of hair gone and that meant not as much to run his fingers through. She still had her signature bangs, however--she'd had bangs as long as he had known her, and she wasn't ready to part with them yet.

"I love it!" Lillian exclaimed, getting up to pay the woman her credits.

Breilla smiled and nodded. "I'm glad to hear it...?"

"Lillian," Lillian told her.

"You seem like an important sort with the pips, Captain."

Lillian blushed a little. "Captain Lillian Crae of the USS Fenris. I'm here to pick up the rest of my crew and depart for exploration."

"My daughter is joining your ship as a science officer...nice to meet you." Breilla told her. "You'll meet her at the Federation Headquarters with the rest of them down the way."

Lillian smiled and thanked her, heading towards the Federation Headquarters, taking a deep breath as she stood outside of the large building. Her heart was beating pretty fast, but she was determined, so she went inside to talk to Admiral Grant Flynn. He was the one who had helped her to hand select her crew after K'nok had told her he was giving her the USS Fenris to captain and she smiled when she saw him.

"Grant!" Lillian exclaimed, hugging him as he hugged her back.

Grant laughed and then pulled back and pointed to her hair. "Haircut?"

"Yeah, I thought it was time--the long hair isn't very prosfessional. So...business?"

"Breilla then? She is our best."

"Breilla indeed."

Grant laughed and then nodded, both of them sitting down and discussing all of her objectives and how she would have to check in with him every once in a while. She was alright with that and once she was given her orders he took her to welcome her new crew on board the USS Fenris with Marlo, letting everyone mingle. In fact, Lillian wanted to mingle too and it was about time she took a little time to enjoy herself. Taking a deep breath of the fresh air on Tercius Prime, Lillian smiled to herself because she knew it was time for her to take a step back and relax and this seemed like the perfect time to do it.

Besides...perhaps she could mingle with some of her crew members.

Usually seeing a male human and a female Orion would stir all sorts of connotations. However the appearance of both Taylor and Nayla were enough to put those thoughts to rest. They were both dressed in black fatigue trousers with combat boots. Their trousers were held up by belts adorned with all sorts of devices. From their plasma pistols, power cells, knives and all sorts of interesting devices. Taylor wore a simple green t-shirt while Nayla opted for a red flight jacket which burned in bright contrast to her emerald skin.

They both milled around the stalls that sold things from clothes to odd trinkets. Right now they were standing around a stall that sold things like scarfs and shawls. Taylor was more or less gift shopping leaving Nayla to deal with his typical indecision. He didn't have a lot of latinum as it stood and right now he was regretting turning down Melissa's mercenary offer in a way that would take him a long time to get in her good books. Or at least out of the bad ones. As Taylor picked up scarf after scarf the Orion beside him gave a heavy sigh.

“It'll be over when it's over.” he informed her in reply of her sound.

Frowing Nayla wrapped her arm around the back of Taylor's neck and looked at the stall then at the Sarian before frowning again. “Can't we find a really, really, really good place to get drunk. After all we're not on duty. Our time, my dear Ex-Colonel Lucas, is for us. Do you really have to look for a present for Lillian?”

“Who says it's for her, might be for you.” replied Taylor with a smile.

“I dunno...cause you're the one sleeping in her quarters now?” pointed out Nayla with an expression that wasn't amused. “Then again in most other cultures the captain of a ship can have their pick of some good meat...congratulations, you just got promoted to captain's piece of ass.”

Now it was Taylor's turn to appear unamused. At first he didn't answer the bait that was metaphorically dangling in front of him as he gave over two strips of latinum for a deep, purple shawl made out of cotton or something that felt like cotton. The vendor placed it in a bag and handed it to Taylor who accepted it with thanks. The troublesome pair moved on through the stalls and Taylor felt rather good about himself at the idea of getting Lillian a gift. Then again he struggled to find something that said 'I'm sorry for leaving you and our unborn child' but he took a stab at it anyway.

What didn't help his mood was Nayla's constant chirping about him and Lillian. So they had got back together and now he was living with her. It wasn't jealousy that she was feeling, just protectiveness. All the Orion knew of Taylor was that he had fallen on hard times and the good stuff he had told her about Lillian. Which was fair enough but it didn't ease the worry that she would be the undoing of him.

“Can we get drunk now? You've got your harpy her present.” asked Nayla coolly.

“Yes..ok...but don't call her a harpy.”

"Salazar!" called out a bored-looking ensign, busy handing out transfer orders. At the sound of his name Carlos shot up from his seat and strode over to the desk to collect the PADD with his orders. The ensign looked up, confirmed it was the right person, then returned his gaze to his console while he addressed the noncom before him.

"Yeoman, you're assigned to the Fenris, it just docked. Looks like they've got you assigned to Captain Crae as an aide and administrative assistant. You've got an hour to get your things packed, then report to the duty officer there. Although…" the man mused for a moment. "…it looks like they're all on shore leave shifts right now. You could probably get away with mingling for a while. Just a thought," the ensign continued, without looking up.

"Yes sir," Carlos offered evasively, and at a dismissive nod from the officer he turned and strode out, maintaining his formal bearing the whole way to his shared quarters. There he quickly packed his few possessions into a duffel bag, nodded farewell to his bunkmates (who he'd never really known that well anyway) and made his way to where the Fenris was docked. It was a simple matter of reporting in and getting his things stowed, but a quick conversation with the duty officer revealed that everything else was a little more complicated.

"Captain Crae is on shore leave, and I suppose technically you are too now. I guess you could go track her down and report in," the duty lieutenant shrugged. This put Carlos in a difficult spot. He'd imagined officially reporting to his new CO in her ready room, and immediately getting to work. Tracking her down in some bar or restaurant didn't seem right; it might give a bad first impression. So he was conflicted about what to do for a moment.

"Can…can you have the comm officer page me when she returns to the ship?" Carlos asked apprehensively, but was relieved when the officer nodded. So, with that taken care of he returned to the main plaza, looking for a quiet bar where he could sit and review the Fenris' crew manifest for a while…including the file of the Captain whose aide he now was, even if she didn't know it yet.

Lillian had been enjoying some nice, relaxing time in the Plaza when suddenly she had a feeling that she was going to be cranky for the rest of her stay. At first she was happy because her crew seemed relaxed and she felt calm and she'd gotten her hair cut just how she wanted it, but then she saw them: Ferengi. While she understood that she was going to run into Ferengi now and again, just the mere sight of them made her irrationally frustrated and now was definitely no exception to that.

There were plenty that wondered why it was that Betazoids didn't get along with Ferengi, especially since in both species there were naked females, but that too was different to anyone that was smart enough to research. While Ferengi did not allow their women to wear clothes as it was above them, Betazoid females and males had no problem with nudity. Betazoids were a species that valued honesty and openness more than almost anything, so on top of not being able to read Ferengi minds, they were repulsed by how Ferengi got away with things.

The worst part of it all, was that the three Ferengi were coming right for her. She honestly didn't know what she had done in a past life to deserve this. Then again it really didn't take a past life...all of the things she'd done for Marshall made it so that this kind of thing was really just karmic payback. Sighing at that, Lillian cringed a little when the group of Ferengi made their way over to her and looked her up and down like a piece of meat.

"What do you want?" Lillian asked them bluntly, her annoyance clearly lacing her voice.

The Ferengi that led the threesome spoke first. "We were just looking at your rank, Human. Starfleet Captain."

"What of it? And I'm not human--I'm a Betazoid." Lillian responded firmly, wishing they'd leave her alone.

While she wasn't proud of the way that she was acting toward them, she had been raised to be weary of those species that she could not read, empathically and/or telepathically, and this was that kind of species. All she knew about the Ferengi that she had encountered was their absolute disregard for anything other than the profit they could receive from whatever misadventure they were doing at that given time. Sure, there were probably exceptions to every rule, but judging that they'd singled her out by rank, they wanted something.

"Betazoid?" One of the others asked. "Then you are a telepath? Dason..."

The one at the head of the group appeared to be this 'Dason', as the other Ferengi had elbowed him when he had said his name and he had responded. They began to talk amongst themselves and Lillian caught onto their names: Dason, Quen and Qualin. It seemed that Dason was the one in charge and though Lillian caught parts of their conversation, she didn't catch enough and it annoyed her more than she could explain that she couldn't just read their minds. Perhaps it was her hormones, but she was on high alert now more than she was when they had been approaching her.

"We require your assistance," Dason told her suddenly as the three turned to face her once again. "You have abilities that we do not and you would get a nice profit."

Lillian sat there in mock consideration a moment. "I'm going to have to pass. Find someone else to help you."

"You do not understand, Betazoid," Quen began, Lillian already not liking him for convincing Dason to keep talking to her after figuring out, out loud that she was a telepath, "this is an incredibly rare opportunity."

"I got a whole ship gift wrapped and handed to me to command--that's as rare an opportunity as it gets." Lillian responded, standing up from the edge of the fountain she'd been relaxing by and moving past them. "Goodbye."

What Lillian hadn't planned on was for them to follow her, talking amongst themselves as they went. If this kept up, Lillian was going to fly off the handle. While she didn't want to see her crew like that, she knew that sooner or later their mere presence was going to make her smack one or all of them. She didn't want to be part of some scheme to get a profit--especially not when that scheme involved her compromising her morals to use her telepathy on unsuspecting pawns in their more than likely flawed plan.

"Give Momma strength," Lillian whispered to her stomach as she walked along, annoyed they were still following her.

Maddie sighed contently as she walked away from the ensign with ship assignments. She'd been assigned to the USS Fenris, a ship she hadn't heard much about but was excited to bored. She looked forward to the counseling position, she liked helping others and was happy to help wherever she could. She hoped the ship's adventures would prove fruitful and successful. Though the mischievous dark part of her couldn't wait to meet troubled passengers who sought guidance. She loved helping those who were lost, it gave her satisfaction to know she had made a difference in someone's life.

She exited headquarters with her belongings from her quarters, she made her way over to Fenris to deposit her possessions. She was informed that the crew was on shore leave while the engineers did some work on the ship. A little put out that she had to pass time, she decided to look for Captain Crae and introduce herself. She hoped to meet other members and start making friends.

She walked around a bit, taking a little advantage of being on the planet a little longer before leaving to float in space. As much as she was going to miss the sunshine and fresh air, she couldn't wait to head off on missions. She walked around the main plaza a bit, looking for someone who was wearing command uniform.

As the sun beat down on his back Gabe made his way through the marketplace. He wandered without any real reason, nothing he'd seen thus far had taken his interest at all. He adjusted his already sweat soaked short sleeved shirt and continued through the stalls, stopping every now and then to check out the stalls.

He turned over a small local tricket in his hands, the necklace was silver and had a local tribal design hanging from it.

If this was the best I can look forever to then bugger it, I'm heading back to the resort. he thought to himself as he placed the necklace back on the stall and kept on walking.

He came to the main gate of the resort and walked inside, making his way to the pool that sat at the back on the building. He pulled off his shirt and tossed it onto the back of a deckchair before dropping into it himself. He took the sunglasses he carried hanging from the wasitband of his shorts and placed them on his face before leaning back on the chair, which lowered itself as he did so as he was lieing down.

"Can I get you anything sir?" Asked one of the resort's waiters almost as soon as he'd lied down.

"Yes actually, can I get a beer please." he replied.

"Of course sir, I'll be right back with your order."

He signed slightly and closed his eyes...maybe shoreleave wasn't so bad afterall.

They were drunk. Nayla knew it and Taylor knew it. The fact was plain and simple and it wasn't because they were lightweights but merely the frequency of their gulping down of booze like it was a catalyst to life itself. Nayla drank because it was part of her routine during rest and relaxation. A chance to literally let her hair down and enjoy whatever man and bottle she could grab and toss the world's problems aside for one night. For Taylor it was a different story.

He drank out of spite for himself and nothing more. Taylor wasn't trying to forget though sometimes he wish he could forget it all. Forget the things he had done for VANGUARD. Sometimes he could remember a line of Bajorans who had the unfortunate circumstance of seeing sensitive materials due to the team's own negligence. The last thing they ever knew was tumbling into a ditch after Taylor had wiped the slate of evidence with his pulse phaser pistol. For Taylor that was the last straw as far as Starfleet was concerned. He had ran and kept on running for months until the Fenris found him. Till Lillian found him...

In his eyes she reminded him of every happy memory Starfleet had ever been involved in but right now it wasn't enough. The wounds hadn't yet turned to scars and Taylor's drinking was only keeping them open. A bottle of spiced rum was quickly becoming depleted at the expense of his liver. The little bar in the restaurant by the resort was doing well by supplying him with his soon-to-be empty half bottle.

Nayla watched cautiously as her friend paused for a breath. Some days Taylor was like this and it scared her. He wasn't violent or handsy, he was just...distant. Sometimes he just stared as if lost in some distant land. Her green fingers caressed his hand gently as she bit her lip.

“Tay? You ok?” asked Nayla.

“Mmm?” replied Taylor who snapped out of his memory and was feeling rather confused. He noticed the Orion's concerned tone and fingers across his skin. She only touched him if she was worried, giving some declaration that whatever was going on in his mind wouldn't have to be locked up for him own musings. Plus he was drunk and armed. While Nayla knew he wouldn't do anything stupid the patrons might think otherwise. His attire wasn't exactly Starfleet issue.

“Yeah, just thinking about the future. Didn't expect to find myself on a Starfleet ship again.” lied Taylor. His green skinned friend must have believed him because she seemed to lighten up and withdraw her hand from his.

“Just take it easy on the booze will you? Pace yourself. Got a good while before we have to go back.”

Nodding Taylor pushed the bottle away a couple of inches before stroking his face as if rubbing sleep from it. Besides if someone from Fenris came on he didn't want them to see him sucking down a bottle of alcohol. It did little for first impressions and so far he wasn't doing great with them.

Marissa fixed her blouse, having decided to visit the planet in casual wear. While she liked to be in uniform she didn't want to draw any attention to herself as she did what she needed to do with recruiting a little more. Having a few more members of her team would make things more manageable and she'd be a lot happier.

Besides, she needed to have some time to herself.

Time to unwind and relax.

Working only did so much for Marissa's mood as much as she enjoyed putting in the extra hours to get noticed. While she knew she was appreciated and everything she knew that if she didn't unwind a bit she would go a little crazy and with delegating as much as she was delegating she really couldn't afford to do that: go crazy. Besides her meeting with her men wasn't for another hour. So she walked around the Sarian resort a bit mingling with officers a little bit in her loose blouse and tight short shorts, her hair pushed back with a headband but down. Then she saw him.

Her eyes clocked in on Gabe and she smiled a bit, walking over to him and standing by him. "Fancy running into you here. I pegged you to be up there tinkering away on something."

Gabe was sat back in his deck chair, his beer in one hand has he soaked up the sun. He took a drink as Marissa stood next to him. He checked out her outfit and barley suppressed a smile.

Oh I'm so going to hell for that one. He thought to himself as she spoke.

"Ya know I was going to but I figured I may as well get some sun while we're here." He said with a smile as he took of his sunglasses, "That and Lilly pretty much told me I had to...kinda glad she did actually."

Gabe placed his beer on the small table next to him and sat up straight.

"Care for a seat or is this a flying visit?" He asked.

"Lilly's such a slave driver," she laughed as she took a seat on the ground next to him. "I'll join you, handsome, if you don't mind."

Forwardness was a trait Marissa found to be one of her best and since she was on shore leave she figured she was allowed to flirt with the handsome engineer. He was taking a load off and so was she, sitting there next to his chair with her legs curled up next to her but still on display. She was shameless. That and she honestly wanted to know him better.

He was really the reason the ship was running.

Without him they were dead in the water. "So...this your idea of a good time?" Marissa asked him as she leaned on her hand looking up at him curiously.

He took another drink and rolled his shoulder, the movement knocking away his disgarded shirt, which had fallen down over his right shoulder, covering the scar that sat there. After all these years pretty much forgotten the thing was there.

"Ish, my idea of a good time normally consists of either hitting Norsemen with an Axe or shooting Frenchmen, historical holodeck programs of course. Right now I'm just here to relax and recharge and beer always helps." He replied with a smile, "What about you, not a fan of just lying back and getting a 'few rays' as they used ta say?"

"That certainly sounds like fun," Marissa responded with a gentle laugh. "I actually am a big fan of this. While I love what I do and I prefer to be working, I love taking time off to recharge and regroup. Besides, nothing like this place to make you want to take a load off. That and I'm rather fond of the company."

She winked at Gabe to let him know that she was referring to him, settling in a bit more there. Marissa had wanted to talk to him since she had first seen him in Engineering when she had gone to check in on her brother, and now she was finally speaking to him. He seemed like a lot of fun even if the rumor mill was churning out rumors of him being a workaholic. This could be a lot of fun if she didn't intimidate him like she intimidated everyone else.

"You have any solid plans for your leave?"

"Not really...shore leave is something new, this'll be only the second time I've taken it and technically the first time was medical leave so not sure if it counts."

This beautiful woman's taking an interest in ya and your sat here babbling like a fool...pack it in and shape up. He thought to himself.

"To be honest mostly my plans consisted of lieing here and drinking beer, but I can live with a change of plans with good company." Gabe replied with one of his best smiled, shifting slightly in his chair.

Better.

"What do you have planned then?" He asked, deciding that shoreleave was definitely looking up.

"We should change that then," Marissa told Gabe with a wicked smile on her face, standing up.

She figured that it was shore leave and they should all have a bit of fun. Besides, she was about as forward as they came and she wanted to see what kind of fun she could get Gabe to dabble in before she had to get back to business. So she pulled the blouse up and off to reveal a bikini top and looked toward the water.

"Care for a dip?"

Gabe stood up and left the last few mouthfuls of his drink to stand beside Marissa.

"As changes of plans go, I've heard much worse ideas." He said, watching the Sarian sun as it reflected off the warm water and Marissa's long dark hair.

He smiled and turned, diving into the water and coming up a few meters away, floating slowly on his back he watched Marissa.

"Come on in, water's lovely."

Marissa smirked at him and shimmied her short shorts off to reveal her bikini bottoms before she dove in. She let the cool water wash over her and surfaced, wiping her eyes. She giggled, splashing Gabe a little and looking him over. He was a bit different than she had pictured and she liked that about him: hoped to learn more about him in the future.

"I think I'm really going to like you..." she told him with a smile before going under the water again.

Maybe she shouldn't have admitted it out loud but there it was. She was already starting to like the engineer and the ball was now in his court.

Gabe smiled as Marissa disappeared into the water. There were two main reasons for this and one of those was that he could actually enjoy himself. The shades of Harklas had haunted him for many years. It had only been recently, with the virus attack on Starbase 7 that he'd been able to put them behind him. Six months ago he wouldn't have ben able to do this, He'd have been sure something would break so he didn't have to leave the ship but now, hell this was the closest thing he'd had to a date in a decade.

As Marissa's head broke the surface, he splashed her as she'd done to him only a few moments ago.

"Well that's good to know, so what's ya plan for the rest of the day?" He asked.

Marissa smiled swimming close to him. "I've got tactical officers to meet, but...I've got free time for you if you ever want to talk some more."

She had thought about just asking him out, but she had been forward enough. So she just laughed and got a little closer to him, smiling and leaving the asking up to him. If he wanted a date with her then he could ask...or at least give her a sign that she should ask him to dinner sometime.

So what ya gonna do Sharpe? Ya gonna take a change on at least a little happiness or ya gonna throw it away like normal? He thought to himself as Marissa finished speaking. Marissa was beautiful there was no doubt about that and he knew that in the grand scheme of things phyisical attraction wasn't the whole basis for a relationship but it was a good start.

He looked deeply into her blue grey eyes and decided. His life had changed a lot in the last few months and he was dedicated to making sure it stayed that way.

"I may be being a little forward here but...Ya fancy having dinner later?" He asked, hoping he was reading the signals right.

"I would love to have dinner with you." she told him happily.

She rustled his hair playfully and then smiled a bit more at the thought of it all. Certainly not how she'd expected meeting the man, but she was happy she'd approached him. He was a nice guy and he seemed cooperative and she knew from hearsay that he was dedicated to his job: that he liked to fix things. Plus he was attractive. All nice qualities to have in a man and Marissa was happy as well as nervous.

"Name the time and place and I'll be there." Marissa said happily, her whole face lit up even though normally her emotions were controlled better.

Gabe nodded, suddenly thinking about where to take her. He thought about the holodeck but wasn't sure how well that'd go down, besides if he was going to do this, he was going to do it right.

"I saw a nice looking place about ten minutes walk from here. I think we'll be here a while longer so how about meet back here at the resort about 5PM ish?" He replied with a smile.

Marissa smiled and nodded, kissing his cheek. "Sounds like a date to me. I'll see you then, Handsome."

Going over the 'paperwork' he had downloaded from the Fenris' computer and sipping a beer, Carlos frowned. Either someone from the quartermaster's office was doing sloppy work, or there were a number of phasers missing from the armory. There was a minor imbalance between what was reported in stock and what had been allegedly delivered at the last resupply.

Chewing his lip, the quiet noncom wondered how to handle this discrepancy. It seemed like too small a matter to bother Captain Crae (who he had yet to meet) with, but he was equally apprehensive about confronting the Chief of Security, whose responsibility it really was. He had been poring over their personnel files, and they both seemed like formidable women. Sighing, Carlos set down his PADD and rubbed his eyes for a moment, then started to take a gulp of amber-colored beer.

He started at a slight commotion from further down the bar. Turning, he saw it originated from two curious looking characters. One was a fearsome looking man eyeing a bottle he'd clearly been working on for a while. Something about him screamed 'merc,' since he reminded Carlos of the private military contractors his father had hired to guard important shipments.

But the other one…

He held his beer vacantly in front of his mouth, forgetting it entirely as he gazed at the fearsome man's companion, captivated by the sight of the Orion woman. Sure, he knew about Orions, had seen them before, but not any like her. Something stirred within in him, and he realized he might be on a ship for a while, so he had better get some strange while he still could. And he was sure he could woo her away from her hard-drinking comrade, who looked liked he hadn't smiled in decades. Glancing around to make sure there were no officers or other Starfleet personnel in the immediate vicinity, he decided to go for it.

"Un trago de tequila, por favor," he called to the bartender, and after it was served he quickly slammed the shot of tequila for courage. Sniffing, and straightening his uniform, Carlos sauntered over to the two, his attention fixated on the Orion. Sidling up to her and trying not to look at her companion, he smiled and asked congenially "Hey there. Buy you a drink?"

Both Talyor and Nayla looked up at each other when the strange man in command red came and invaded their space after ordering his drink. On Vega Station everyone from pirate and merc knew not to make small talk to get into the Orion's pants when the human was around. Not because he instantly kicked the crap out of the person but because from the moment you make a move towards Nayla, you're their little plaything. This man had stumbled into the trap beautifully and it had been a while since they had enjoyed themselves Vega style.

Taylor broke free from his morose thoughts and smiled to himself silently, placing the bottle down on the bar while Nayla worked her magic. There was something about Orion women that made men his drool. Nayla loved to play that card to her advantage before slipping away into the crowd. She turned to look Carlos up and down all too obviously before pressing up against him. Her hand slid up his inner thigh but just short of where he probably wanted her hand before taking it way.

"You can buy me a drink and then do all sorts of things to me after." said Nayla bluntly with a small smile. "If you win against my friend in a fist fight here. Got to warn you though, he's an ex-marine officer. Got to lieutenant colonel by being very hard to kill. Fought a few wars...anything I missed Tay?"

Taylor stood up from his stool and sized Carlos up. The Starfleet-turned-merc-turned-Starfleet had his heavy plasma pistol and knife on his belt not to mention the fact that his cybernetic eye was a testament to his sheer tenacity in battle. It would have been amusing to see if the man actually accepted Nayla's offer. "Aye" he said in his gruff Scottish accent. "I'm screwing the captain of the USS Fenris."
