USS Fenris' Marine Detachment Force

Unit Information


With the Federation constantly reviewing the need for a focus of military assets given that the Dominion War is now over. The Starfleet Marine Corps has been given new deployment orders for their marine units. While starbases and planetary defensive garrisons retain their regiments or even divisions of marines it has been found that placing entire companies on board ships is not a wise way to place the men and women in green when ships already have security forces numbering several platoons.

Instead ships are equipped, depending on the commanding officer's preference, with one or two squads of elite and battle hardened marines who's careers have been filled with a broad spectrum of missions, something easily found within the Corps.

Omega Squad is the standing marine force within the new fleet protection orders permanently fixed to the USS Fenris. While the Security department may be referred to as anything between a clumsy hammer or generalised sword, Omega Squad is the needle. Capable of carrying out missions from search and rescue, anti-boarding and boarding actions, planetary assault and special operations they give the captain an extra card to play.

Summary: Amongst marines he is regarded as a well-loved officer who looks after his own and his known within SFMC Headquarters for his tactical excellence and combat prowess. As a field commander Taylor has led marines constantly to victory while minimising the risk to his own forces. He believes in leading from the front and often finds himself within the front ranks doing just that. Taylor is extremely proud of his marine career and of the Corps itself firmly believing them to be a much needed element in the security of the Federation. However he can be stubborn and this stubbornness can rub off wrongly on those who take Taylor a little too seriously when really he's rather laid back. Of course Taylor does enter a sergeant/officer hybrid mode when presented with fools that he rarely suffers.

Summary: With a culture based around warrior spirit, genetic enhancements and three centuries of combat experience under his belt, most of which comes from the Vulpine Empire's military, Dariak is a model officer. Disciplined, polite and proud of both his home star-nation and his new unit within the Marine Corps. He offers a balance for Taylor's relaxed and restless ways but can often be taken the wrong way as his people tend to be bluntly honest without tact which results in altercations. Despite this Dariak is known as a well-mannered person and a source of logic and reason for his rather explosive commander.

Summary: Able to offset her lack of experience within Starfleet with her experience of the galaxy at large Nayla has gone from dancer, to pirate-killer to Starfleet Intelligence officer. Sponsored by her closest friend Taylor Lucas (who is legally her slave owner within Orion space) Nayla was given a chance to serve Starfleet Intelligence once they had molested her security clearance due to her background. Once passing the check she was slated for Omega squad, Taylor's commando detachment of the Fenris. A pleasant and happy young woman Nayla replaces the usual elitism demonstrated by SFI with her helpful attitude regardless of the minor things such as 'need to know'.

Summary: Cold, calculating and methodical on the job and a typical R'n'R marine off the job Katri, or Kat as most have taken to calling her, is a highly skilled and experienced marksman who takes great pride in her work. Like most snipers within the Marine Corps she's treated with respect and fear from with foes and friend alike who don't wish to get on her bad side. A master of concealment despite her naturally blue skin she is an excellent Arctic survival expert, master of hand-to-hand and something of a heavy drinker when the chance presents itself.

Summary: Loud-spoken and loyal, Aria is rather a complex individual. She is a liberated Borg so she is most competent in the medical field as physiology of other races is always present in her mind, and she is one of the best engineers. Not only that, but her present nanoprobes means that she is able to regenerate quickly, she is stronger than most, and she is immune to disease which helps her to be the best of the best. While personally one on one Aria is a bit shy and blunt--an interesting combination--in battle and when it comes to work, she is very precise in every action that she makes. Since she was Borg and is used to dangerous situations, she throws herself into them easily and rarely looks back.

Summary: Second in combat experience only to Taylor, James is a steadfast marine who trusts his comrades and his ability to handle heavy weapons to see him through the thickest of action. As a spaceborne Ranger he's got the same crazy-braveness as those he has fought with through countless firefights and operations. He often thinks with his heart and not his head and this tends to amplify when around Taylor who he considers a brother, friend and comrade.

The Type-IIM is the standard sidearm for the SFMC and while it retains the same firepower to the Type-IIF, the security standard issue, it has improved stability and accuracy due to it's design.

The Type-IVb is a pulse firing phaser rifle fielded by the Starfleet Marine Corps. Superior in terms of durability, firepower and versatility to Starfleet Security models, it allows the marines to adapt to different tactical situations. It is able to be equipped with an under-slung photonic grenade launcher or a bayonet.

Marine Assault Carbine Mk II



When boarding parties or defenders of ships have fought the length of their weapons often makes it slower to react and bring their weapons to bear against an enemy force. Such sluggish doctrine costs lives and it's something Starfleet knows of all too well. To give their marine forces an edge in close quarters battle (CQB) they decided to issue the Marine Assault Carbine. The Mark Two features a fully automatic fire rate to aid marines in pacifying enemies up close.

Squad Support Phaser Weapon



With maneuverer warfare, suppression is key to keeping the tempo up in battle. The SSPW allows field commanders to suppress enemy positions with a high concentration of phaser fire allowing the rest of his or her marines to flank and move with impunity.

Phaser Sniper Weapon



Despite the SFMC being known for nothing more than overkilling, whooping and air-punching manics there is nothing marines dream of more than precision. Airstrikes may gain better coverage but it's when one well placed shot wins a battle that the true marine spirit shows. Marine marksmen are above any unit from any other organisation other than SFSOCOM. Their tool is the Phaser Sniper Weapon which utilizes specialized crystals that keep the luminosity to an absolute zero, keeping the shooter as hidden as possible.

Marine Photon Rifle



It is common knowledge that are marines are often outnumbered and outpositioned. The MkII photon rifle ensure that they never become outgunned. Against light armoured vehicles and weapons emplacements the photon rifle flourishes. As a force multiplier it gives squads the ability to remain versatile, light and lethal.

The photon rifle is more or less a miniature ship's torpedo launcher. It uses photon casings much like a photon torpedo and fires using a graviton pulse. The weapon is highly effective against Borg drones as it is almost impossible to adapt to the ever changing modulation of the shots.

When the enemy fields aircraft and heavy vehicles against the marines, they deploy the Starfleet Security Isomagnetic Disintergrator. A shoulder mounted guided energy launcher that is designed to take whatever the enemy deploys and turn them into flaming piles of debris.
